7 Rainy Day Activities while Camping

by Queenie Valenzuela 4 months ago

When the weather changes suddenly, it can be annoying, but it also gives us a chance to do different things. Rainy days, especially, let us try out activities indoors that we might not normally do. When it’s raining outside, it's a good time to do tasks inside that we haven’t had time for. Like organizing our stuff, cleaning up, or fixing things around the house. Also, rainy days can be fun for trying out new things we've been curious about. Maybe it’s cooking a new recipe, doing a craft project, or learning something new.
Rainy days teach us to be flexible and creative. Instead of feeling down about the weather, we can use the time to do stuff indoors that we enjoy or that needs to get done. So, next time it rains, don’t feel too bummed out—use the time to try something new or get things done around the house. Aside from these chores, these are the things you can also this:

PLAY SOME GAMES

My husband and I are big fans of games, especially classics like chess, checkers, and Uno. Recently, we got a Nintendo Switch, and I’m hooked on it! We've downloaded classic favorites like Risk, Mario Party, and Monopoly. For more laid-back moments, we always keep a deck of cards handy in the RV for games like War and Rummy. When our godchildren come along on camping trips, I make sure to pack their favorites too, like Candy Land, Trouble, and Jenga. Games are a staple of our adventures, bringing us together and adding fun to our travels.

HOBBIES

If you're like me, it can be tough to find time for hobbies. But rainy days are great for catching up on them! Some people enjoy painting or crafting with decoupage, while others prefer activities like puzzles, knitting, or writing. The sound of rain makes it a calming atmosphere for creativity. So next time it rains, take the opportunity to enjoy your favorite hobbies indoors and make the most of the cozy day.

MEAL PREP

I am not a big fan of cooking all the time in an RV. There is never enough kitchen space, so the less times I have to cook the better. If I’m going to be stuck in doors all day I will try to make the best of it by getting the week’s meal prep out of the way. Doing it this way allows for more fun in the sun!
If you happen to love cooking, keep a recipe book or two on hand to try out new dishes on a rainy day. Heck, if you don’t want to pre-cook all your food for the week, you could still always use this time to plan what meals you are going to prepare. We all know that making decisions while hungry isn’t fun!

MAINTENANCE

While I tackle meal prepping, my partner dedicates rainy days to RV maintenance. Constant travel can wear down our unit, so he focuses on tasks like fixing cabinet hinges, replacing worn water fittings, and maintaining the air conditioner. By staying on top of these minor repairs, we avoid the stress of everything breaking down at once. Rainy days also offer a chance to spruce up the RV, whether it's hanging new curtains or installing shelf liners, making the most of the indoor time to enhance our living space.

CHORE TIME

When it comes to chores I tend to put off for tomorrow what I could get done today. It may not be exciting, but using rainy days to catch up on folding that laundry you've been putting off all week is not a bad way to utilize being stuck indoors. Since I use rainy days to prepare meals, my chore is always the dishes. For my other half, he’s sweet enough to clean our bathroom. (My least favorite thing to do!) You could always use this opportunity to organize your pantry or clean out that junk drawer!
Chores may not be a fun thing to do on a rainy day, but at the end of the day when you’re resting and looking around at your clean RV, you will feel a sense of personal accomplishment. I know I do when I take advantage of the opportunity, no matter how much I grumble.

EXPLORE

For those who refuse to be confined indoors, rainy days present an opportunity to explore beyond the RV's walls. If you have the flexibility to detach your camper and venture into town, it's a great time to discover new places. My partner and I love traveling because we relish in experiencing new sights and cultures. Take advantage of the rain to visit local museums or explore the nearby mall – you might uncover hidden gems right in your backyard! And if you find yourself needing any repairs or upgrades for your RV, RV Depot is always there to assist. So, embrace the chance to learn about local culture and break free from the confines of your mobile home with the added peace of mind of knowing that RV Depot is ready to support your adventures.

CONNECT WITH FAMILY

When the weather's bad and we're stuck indoors, it's a great time to reach out to family and friends. With internet access, we can check in with loved ones, like my mom who worries about me on the road. Keeping them updated eases their concerns about my safety. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok also offer fun ways to share our adventures. With RV Depot's assistance, we can ensure that staying connected with family remains easy and reliable, no matter where our travels lead us.
Stop looking at rainy days as a damper on your vacation! Start looking at them as an opportunity to get caught up, relax, or gain quality time with your loved ones. You might even find yourself looking forward to the rainy season! I would love to hear about your favorite things to do during a rainy day! Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
