Duncanville goes back to 1845, when Crawford Trees came down from Illinois and bought several thousand acres out of the old Peters Colony. The railroad put in a stop called Duncan Switch in 1880, named for a line foreman, and the first postmaster renamed the place Duncanville two years later.
